Dordogne Region

aquitaine1Unspoilt nature, grandoise landscapes and magical sights ! The département of the Dordogne, Aquitaine has an amazing diversity of landscape, limestone cliffs, rolling hills covered with vineyards, and dense forests.

The lovely countryside lining the Dordogne river to the city of Bordeaux is dotted with perched villages and numerous châteaux. As part of the Aquitaine region, Dordogne Périgord is one of the largest and most picturesque “ départements” in France, and the sense of history is overwhelming…with the cave paintings at Lascaux dating from 40,000 BC, medieval hilltop villages and fortresses, and listed historic landmarks.

map2Bordeaux, the capital of the Aquitaine is known for its beautiful architecture, including the spectacular Esplanade des Quinconces and the Grand Théatre, museums and riverfront restaurants. And the food…it is no surprise that in a region known for its exceptional wines, the epicurean specialities hold their own as well.

Foie gras, confit de canard, the famous black truffles of the Perigord, Atlantic shellfish, cheeses and chocolates dominate the region’s menus and pair nicely with those amazing locally produced vintages. Choosing to host our French Immersion Program in the Dordogne, Aquitaine Region is not just a journey back in time, it is also an opportunity to enjoy a relaxing stay and meet the friendly locals in beautiful and peaceful surroundings.
